CNN Reporter Zain Asher held back tears as she reported on the news of her brother Chiwetel Ejiofor nomination for the Academy Awards Best Actor for his powerful performance in “12 Years a Slave.”
She talked of how she and her brothers were raised in a small hut in Nigeria, and her mother had to fetch and boil water from a river for them to drink. She also talked about how the moment was bitter-sweet because of their father not being able to witness this great moment. When Chiwetel was 11 years old he was involved in a car accident that left him in a coma, and took his father’s life.
