According to the Daily Mail,

You may want to swap the vitamin C for zinc if you’re looking to avoid getting a cold. The Canadian Medial Association Journal analyzed both medical and non-medical methods for preventing the common cold and found that Vitamin C does little to help your symptoms.  Washing your hands and taking zinc tablets are the best ways to prevent a cold.  Researchers say that zinc supplements of 10 or 15mg a day works for children, resulting in lower rates of colds and less time off school.
