(HOUSTON) – We are following up on new leads in the death of a 9-year-old girl with special needs, whose body was found stuffed in a refrigerator drawer earlier this week.

Texas Health and Human Services officials confirm they are investigating Amber Keyes for food stamp fraud, and possibly more. They are looking into whether she was receiving aid for the care of her daughter since January, when 9-year-old Ayahna reportedly died. The girl had cerebral palsy.

The girl’s 14-pound body was found Monday in a refrigerator drawer.

During an emergency hearing to determine temporary custody for the Ayahna’s 5-year-old sister, the case worker testified that the younger sister opened the refrigerator at one point and saw her sister’s body.

We’re told Ayahna had scars and abrasions on her back.

At last check, Houston police said Keyes is cooperating with the investigation, although they did not know where she is.

Keys previously lost rights to another child besides Ayahna and Arabiya.

The girls’ father, Armand Comb, does not live with the family, CPS said, but has a history of substance abuse. A court-ordered drug test for Comb is delayed until he appoints an attorney.
