(GALVESTON, TX) — A Galveston man faces up to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement and theft of federal government benefits.

John Stephen Davis, 64, admitted to gaining power of attorney over the bank account of a woman just weeks before her death.

He then failed to notify the government, so her retirement benefits continued to be deposited into that account.

Prosecutors said he collected more than $385,000 since the woman died in April 2003.

Davis will be sentenced in September.
