Whitney Movie: What’s Love Got to do With Whitney?
So Golden Globe Award winner and Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett will make her directorial debut this January with the Lifetime Original Movie “Whitney.” Now, you’ve probably been hearing the controversy months past behind the film which will star Yaya DaCosta in the lead role as Whitney Houston, along side fairly new comer Arlen Escarpeta as Whitney’s ex-husband Bobby Brown.
Let me say this from jump, I LOVED LOVED LOVED Angela Bassett as Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” The capacity Angela Bassett embodies to transform into another human being and portray their life as if it were her own is MAGNIFICENT. I would even go so far as to say, Angela is one of my all time favorite actresses. But my question is: What’s love got to do with Whitney!? In other words, will Angela Bassett’s tenacity as an actress aide her in producing a quality film that is sensitive, enlightening, responsible, truthful and that allows Whitney Houston’s legacy to be honored? Or will it become another mockery, under the Lifetime Movie banner?
I’ll certainly have my dvr set to record on January 17th, 2015 when the movie premieres at 7pm central. I look forward to seeing what the film reveals, as it chronicles the headline-making relationship between our beloved Whitney and Bobby, from the first time they first met and through their tumultuous marriage. I’m sure tongues will be wagging post airing. Come on Angela Bassett, don’t let us down! Check out the trailer below:
