The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) of Houston is encouraging residents to properly recycle their Christmas trees after this holiday season.

There will be 18 free facilities throughout Houston where people can come and drop off their Christmas trees.

The trees are then taken in and turned into mulch.

The program runs from December 26,  2014 to January 7, 2015.  All facilities are closed January 1, 2015.

The trees must be stripped from all decorations before recycling.
