There’s yet another reason for cigarette smokers to cut the habit. According to Men’s Health,
New research shows that smoking can shrink your brain by causing key tissues to thin. According to a study published in Molecular Psychiatry, smokers have slimmer cortexes, the outer portion of the brain that’s crucial for cognition. This is also the same part of the brain that thins in Alzheimer’s patients and others with cognitive issues. For each year an individual smokes, the amount of thinning in that region of their brains increased. However, quitting can reverse the effects, with some patients displaying normal thickness after an average of 25 years smoke-free.
Oh wow! Very interesting.
