First Lady Michelle Obama is a strong proponent for education, encourage self-worth and cheered on the strength and beauty of black women at the fifth anniversary of Black Girls Rock! This year will be the first time Mrs. Obama attended the event, which paid tribute to women of color. Last night, the ceremony honored Selma’ director Ava DuVernay, Cicely Tyson, Erykah Badu, Jada Pinkett Smith, Nadia Lopez and more. Look for it, Black Girls Rock! is set to air April 5, at 7pm est on BET.
