It’s no secret that Black women suffer disproportionately from obesity and other largely preventable illnesses. That’s where Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks come in. This dynamic duo are the founders of Black Girls Run, a national organization to help Black women help themselves get more fit and healthy.

By March 2011, Black Girls Run had over 60 clubs around the country helping Black women get into gear and get healthier. Now there are over 70 clubs nationwide with about 60,00 members.
