Unwilling to tone down her style for anyone, Davis fought the system for as long as she could before leaving the business for good in 1979. A 2007 Dazed magazine interview revealed that Davis was back to writing songs but little else has been found about her current life.

Seattle record label Light In The Attic Records re-released all of Davis’ albums, which prompted renewed interest in her music. Artists who’ve sampled her work include Lenny Kravitz, Method Man, Redman, and Ice Cube among others.
