In February 2013, New Jersey governor, Chris Christie had lap-band surgery to help him shed some of his estimated 350-pounds. He’s since loss 100 pounds and is striving to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Given his very public battle with obesity, it’s ironic that Christie wouldn’t be an advocate for Michelle Obama‘s healthy living initiative, “Let’s Move”. The program has helped to provide more fruits and vegetables as lunch and snack options for students in school. The First Lady has even gotten the support of stars like Beyonce and Ashanti to encourage kids to exercise and drink more water.

During a campaign stop in Iowa, an 11-year-old middle school student named Jacob Royal told Christie that he missed being able to eat pizza and chips at lunch.

The Republican presidential candidate proceeded to bash Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign. “The First Lady has no business being involved in this. Using the government to mandate her point of view on what people should be eating every day is none of her business, it just isn’t,” said Christie.

“I want people to eat healthier. I’ve been trying to eat more healthy. We all should be trying to do that. It makes us better, makes us living longer, better quality of life, all the rest of it. But in the end, it’s your choice.”

“I don’t care what you’re eating for lunch every day. I really don’t” he went on to say. “I want you to eat whatever your mother wants you to eat and your father want you to eat.”

Well Governor, maybe if someone had done a better job when you were a child to provide you with alternatives to pizza and chips, you wouldn’t be in your current predicament! Good luck on your weight loss journey!
