Songstress Toni Braxton was the recipient of the BMI Awards’ highest honor, the President’s Award, last night in Atlanta. Hosted by comedian Chris Tucker at the Woodruff Arts Center, the annual R&B/Hip Hop Awards brought out the who’s who in entertainment.
Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth were awarded the Song of the Year for “See You Again,” while rap producer Metro Boomin was honored as the Producer of the Year. Universal Publishing Music Group took home the Publisher of the Year award after winning a record 21 awards.
Host Chris kept the audience in stitches throughout the evening as BMI awarded songwriters, composers, executives, and performers who have made contributions to the entertainment industry.
“What’s Your Fantasy” rapper Ludacris and will.i.am joined Toni in receiving the prestigious BMI President’s Award.
Yolanda Adams brought down the house and received a standing ovation with a rendition of Toni’s smash hit “Un-break My Heart.”
Toni’s sisters, Traci, Towanda, and Trina, paid homage to their sister by performing “Breathe Again.” Hmmm … we wonder why Tamar didn’t perform.
It’s definitely not an awards show without DJ Khaled in the building. He joined his protégé, Kent Jones, for a performance of his debut song “I Don’t Mind.”
Congrats to all of the esteemed honorees.
