Nigerian President Apologizes For Plagiarizing POTUS’ Speech

On Saturday, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari apologized for plagiarizing’s 2008 victory speech. According to NBC News, Buhari used the speech as a part of his “Change Begins With Me” campaign that demands honesty and integrity in politics.

How ironic.

During a speech, Buhari said, “We must resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship, pettiness and immaturity that have poisoned our country for so long. Let us summon a new spirit of responsibility, spirit of service, of patriotism and sacrifice. Let us all resolve to pitch in and work hard and look after, not only ourselves, but one another.”

Compared to POTUS’: “So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. … Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long.”

The Nigerian president said he will punish those responsible for lifting the paragraphs, but not before POTUS and him meet during a U.N. General Assembly session to discuss ISIS and terrorism at the White House on Friday.

Six former city correction officers from Rikers Island have been sentenced to prison for the 2012 brutal attack on inmate Jahmal Lightfoot.

According to the New York Daily News, Former Capt. Gerald Vaughn received five and a half years behind bars; David Rodriguez, Tobias Parker, Jose Parra and Alfred Rivera—who carrying out the beating out—were sentenced to four and a half years. The officers tried to justify the beating saying that that Lightfoot tried to attack them with a razor, a notion that the court rejected due to lack of evidence.

Before handing down the sentences, Bronx Judge Steven Barrett said the convicted officers had “succumbed to their worst instincts and to the casual violence that is too often prevalent among the prison population these men were entrusted to watch.”

In addition, Lightfoot testified in court that the officers repeatedly stomped on his head while others held back his arms and legs.

What was supposed to be left behind that search pen, behind that white sheet, because of Jahmal Lightfoot’s courage has come to light,” said Assistant District Attorney Lawrence Piergrossi.
