One of the most infamously quiet (retired) NFL players has finally spoken out.

Former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, who only showed up to press conferences because he didn’t want to be fined, went on Conan Tuesday night to speak on his feelings about Colin Kaepernick‘s national anthem protest.

“With what’s going on, I’d rather see him take a knee than stand up, put his hands up, and get murdered,” Lynch said as he stood with his hands up. “My take on it is, sh*t, they got to start somewhere.”

Lynch went on to explain that Kaepernick isn’t a threat to America nor is he disrupting the game of football in any way.

I just hope people open up their eyes and see that there’s really a problem going on and something needs to be done for it to stop,” he added.

The quarterback’s protest has grown since he took a seat during a preseason game in August, with other NFL players and athletes showing support. In the past two days, more Black men have been killed by police, including Terence Crutcher in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a disabled man in Charlotte, North Carolina named Keith Lamont Scott.

Watch the 30-year-old offer his opinion up top.
