Stop sharing your cell phone number, is what this USA Today article says.

Private investigator and former FBI agent Thomas Martin recently wrote a blog post titled

“Your cell phone number is your new Social Security number.”

He says too many Americans are likely to divulge their ten-digit number too easily, as your cell phone number is a gateway to your identity. It provides entrance to all the data on your phone, and can connect your other information to you– your email address, physical address– everything. To protect yourself: ask why a business needs your cell phone number; get a virtual phone number; enable two-factor or multi-factor authentication on all your devices; sign up for the “do not call” list; and get more than one cell phone.

I never thought about it like that.  That’s some good info to know.
