Facebook recently released its Messenger Kids app, but experts say it’s no good for kids. According to Yahoo News,

Over 100 advocates, including Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, ACLU of Massachusetts and Centre for Child Honouring have signed a letter, addressed to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, that says the app will “undermine children’s healthy development.”

They note that kids under age 13 aren’t ready to have social media accounts, despite precautions taken with the app, and that young kids “are not old enough to navigate the complexities of online relationships, which often lead to misunderstandings and conflicts even among more mature users.”

A Facebook Messenger spokesperson responded saying so far they’ve heard good things from parents using the app with their children, and say,

“We continue to be focused on making Messenger Kids the best experience it can be for families.”

Would you let you child download and use the Facebook Messenger Kids app?  I know I wouldn’t.
