Galleria’s Iconic Stainless Steel Street Signs Are Being Replaced

Source: General / General
The stainless steel rings that became a familiar part of our drive through The Galleria area are slowly being removed. Last weekend, the Richmond and Sage halo sign was removed, and now, the sign on Westheimer and Sage – the last remaining one – is set to be taken down.
The Westheimer/Sage ring was first put up in 1995 and that sign, as well as the one on Richmond and Sage, will be replaced with a more modern look similar to the style currently seen on Post Oak Boulevard, which was updated last summer.
From The Houston Chronicle:
The 40-foot halos were inspired by the state’s many oil pipelines, polished to look like “urban jewelry.” The signs matched stainless steel details in the area including street lights, bus benches, archways, and even trash cans. The new crown design still shares similar design markers from the previous rings, but instead of solid steel, they consist of two tube rings: an 8-inch ring on top and a 3-inch ring on the bottom, connected by stainless steel fins all around, and embedded with LED lights.
The new designs will not be solid steel. Instead they will me made up of two tube rings connected by stainless steel fins all around and will be equipped with LED lights.
