According to All Hip-Hop,
Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation and Tidal execs are challenging Prince‘s estate’s claims that they infringed on the late superstar’s copyright by streaming his music after his death back in April. Prince’s estate filed a federal suit against Tidal and Roc Nation back in November, saying that Prince only agreed for Tidal to share his final album Hit n Run Phase One for 90 days upon its release upon its release in 2015. They also revealed that they had recruited Universal Music Group experts to help negotiate streaming rights with other services in time for the 2017 Grammy Awards — where the late icon will be honored. According to Allhiphop, Tidal and Roc Nation execs have challenged the claims in court docs, saying that the plaintiffs do not have the authority to shop Prince’s work to their competitors and are thereby committing copyright misuse in their actions.
I hope they get this worked out.
