Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, is a significant holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is celebrated on June 19th, marking the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Beyond its historical significance, Juneteenth serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and a time for reflection, education, and cultural celebration.
