HOUSTON – A Houston mother was struggling to cope with a sickening reality Monday after police say her 6-year-old son was beaten to death by his biological father because the boy wouldn’t fall asleep.
Tekerrious “T.K.” Jackson was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital with severe bodily injuries around 4:05 a.m. after he appeared to have a seizure. He was pronounced dead when he got there.
Jackson’s father, 34-year-old Alex Duncan, reportedly told investigators the boy’s bruises came from attempts to revive him by slapping him and giving him chest thrusts.
“Right now, it’s like everything is sinking in,” T.K.’s mom, Lucy Adams, said. “I would switch places with him any day. I would switch places with him.”
HPD Sgt. Brian Harris said Duncan had been absent from his son’s life for some time, but the two were recently reunited.
Harris said Adams had allowed the boy to stay with his father over the summer, thinking the two would be living with Duncan’s mother on Coke Street.
But sometime in the past few weeks, Duncan had moved to an apartment on Polk Street and cut off all contact with Adams.
