Apple has updated the Apple Store and its iPhone-related FAQ’s web page to reflect a change in the availability of the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 can no longer be purchased from Apple without an AT&T contract in the U.S. Previously, the iPhone was available from Apple for $599/$699 (16GB and 32GB, respectively) for those not wishing to sign new two-year contracts with AT&T. The Apple Store now declares, “iPhone requires a two-year AT&T wireless service contract.” The subsidized prices of the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4 have not changed. AT&T’s web site confirms that the iPhone 4 requires a new two-year contract if purchased online. However, AT&T still offers no contract pricing for the iPhone 4 at company-owned retail stores.
