Starring in the remake of the 1976 movie “Sparkle” with Whitney Houston and Jordan Sparks, Mike Epps called the TJMS to talk about working with the late Whitney Houston and his role as Satin Struthers.

Epps always seems to make the audience laugh in movies, but Epps plays a comical gangster in “Sparkle” embittered by the lack of respect in his own community. Epps tells TJMS he knew he could perform in more serious roles as opposed to comedy roles but he needed someone to believe in him.

On working with Whitney Houston, Epps says he couldn’t believe Houston wanted to take a picture with him and he will never forget passing by her trailer and hearing her blasting Michael Jackson every morning.
