They are often the ones without a voice, left behind in a natural disaster. But 70 animals from Louisiana are now in Houston, in hopes of finding a permanent family. This is the first wave of pets that could arrive from areas impacted by Hurricane Isaac.

With names such as Buster and Lucky, these puppies from Louisiana already have personalities the size of Texas. The adorable arrivals are among the 70 animals that arrived overnight from St. Bernard parish, La., we’ve got cats, dogs, kittens and puppies of various ages.

They came in the middle of the night. They should have arrived sooner, but with the evacuation it was gridlock traffic

Meera Nandlal with the SPCA found that despite the long journey, these dogs and cats were in great spirits. They were already in good shape and  up for adoption at the animal control center in St. Bernard. They still got the once over again from the veterinarians here. Of course not all of them were happy about that.

They’re going to be dewormed they’re going to have a microchip spay neuter surgery, they go home wih a bag of food from Hill’s Science Diet, they get perks from VCA hospital, and they also get their first set of shots.

Many of the cuddly cats and pups are now on the adoption floor. There is a fee to adopt, but the spca says it’s worth it for a new friend for life and a forever home.
