A man in New York who left his phone in a cab on New Year’s Eve set up a date with the suspected thief to get his phone back.  Nadal Nirenberg said the morning after the phone was stolen someone started using his online dating profile to troll for dates.  Since his phone had been linked to his OK Cupid account, he decided to go after the thief by setting up a fake online dating profile to catch him.  He set up a female profile using a fake picture he found online as the profile image, and began chatting online with the suspected thief.  He said, “My best version of talking as a girl as a flirty girl, I should say, is adding winky face emoticons.” Nirenberg arranged to meet at his apartment for the date, and watched as the thief entered the building.  He explained, “I followed him up the stairs and he turns around and, basically, I confront him right here.  I put the $20 in his hand to defuse the situation as fast as possible, but I had a hammer in my hand just in case.”  Nirenberg got his phone back but the man ran away.
