If Necessity is the Mother of Invention, Innovation is its first-cousin.

At this weekend’s Centerpoint Energy Hurricane Workshop, we saw lots of great ideas for safety, preparation, even preservation of the comforts of home. One of the more dazzling displays of creativity was a “light vest” created by Glen Metzsching, who we caught up with in the Red Cross Ambulance.

Metzsching is a college student, and not really into the business of mass-producing his creation.

He actually came up with the vest to wear so he could safely ride his bicycle at night, or roller blade around his neighborhood. He says he really gets noticed when he wears it at the skating rink.

We think the disco ball might be a tad jealous.
