Fight Prostate Cancer by Clearin’ The Pipes!

Now before you guys run off for some alone time, this one comes with a caveat! According to Polyxeni Dimitropoulou, PhD; Rosalind Eeles, PhD, FRCP; and Kenneth R. Muir, PhD, of the University of Knottingham, in the UK, frequent masturbation can cut your prostate cancer risk for men aged 50 and over. However, frequent masturbation–as much as 2 to 7 times per week–can increase your risk of prostate cancer 79 percent if you are aged 20-30, according to WebMD.

But, don’t freak out if you’re a younger guy who has been grabbing life by the horn, so to speak! WebMD reports the doctors think the increased risk is genetic, and not related necessarily to the frequency of your masturbation habits:

They suggest that young men genetically predisposed to have hormone-sensitive prostate cancer will be at higher risk if their bodies naturally produce high levels of male hormones — the same hormones that give them an intense sex drive.

So it’s not masturbation itself that’s increasing prostate cancer risk in young men. More masturbation may just mean more sex drive — and more androgens bathing prostate tissues.

Sexual intercourse did not have any affect on prostate cancer risk, the doctors said.
