Does your employer offer health insurance that you can’t afford?  If so, you may be able buy subsidized insurance through an Obamacare exchange.

If you find yourself in this situation, don’t ignore a notice from your employer that was supposed to be in your hands by October first.

Houston insurance broker Warren Kolb of Warren Business Services says,  “Employers were required to send out a document to their employees by October first to let them know a couple different things.”

Kolb says that notice will tell the employee whether he or she is eligible to go to the government exchange. ”That’s where people will go if their employer doesn’t offer insurance, or if they fall into a lower income bracket, or if their company charges them a rate for health insurance that’s more than 9 and a half percent of their income.”

Like all things insurance, there’s potential for a lot of confusion.  But, once the overwhelmed on-line exchanges are finally working properly, Affordable Care Act administrators are assuring that it will be easy to get help from a certified Affordable Care Act Navigator.
