January is the busiest month of the year for divorce filings, with a surge beginning on the first Monday of the year — two days ago — which is dubbed “Divorce Monday.” Couples will often wait until after the new year so as not to break up their families during the holidays, and there’s also a shortage of court time from Thanksgiving through New Year’s.
