Cimarron Spirit & Xiomara Fortuna

Join The People’s Station, Majic 102.1 for a multi-institutional, multi-lingual, multi-racial, multi-media and multi-discipline collaboration showcasing the film premiere of Cimarrón Spirit and a mini concert featuring Xiomara Fortuna.

Seeking freedom from sugar plantation masters, African slaves on the island of Hispaniola escaped into the mountains and jungles to build free societies. Their cultures, magic-religious celebrations and customs survive in the Dominican Republic 500 years later.

Upon, Wednesday, February 10th, 2016 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. there will be a panel discussion featuring professors from the University of Houston and Syracuse University.  It will be held at Houston Community College Central College, Learning Hub/Science Building (LHSB) Room 100, 1300 Holman St., Houston, TX 77004.  Also, February 10th, 2016 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., the events are as follows: 7:30 p.m. – Xiomara Fortuna Mini Concert, 8 p.m. – Cimarrón Spirit Film Premiere, 9 p.m. – Panel Discussion all being held at Houston Community College Central College, Heinen Theatre, 3517 Austin at Holman, Houston, TX 77004. Attendance is free.
