Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake is excited to host a Q&A and book signing event to celebrate the release of Dayna Steele’s new book “Surviving Alzheimer’s with Friends, Facebook and a Really Big Glass of Wine”.

This event will occur on May 4 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and is part of a series of educational Alzheimer’s events being held at Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake (17808 Lakecrest View Drive, Cypress, TX 77433)—all of which are free and open to the public.

During the event, Avanti will raffle off five signed copies of Steele’s book, and will donate part of the proceeds of the sales of the books to the area chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Light bites and wine will be served starting at 6:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Please RSVP by emailing hellotownelake@avanti-SL.com or by calling 832-653-4260.

“We are so pleased that Dayna is taking part in this series of educational events we have organized,” said Christina Hale, executive director of Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake. “Learning to live with Alzheimer’s or dementia is a drastic lifestyle change, both for the person who receives the diagnosis and that individual’s loved ones. Dayna has taken her journey in dealing with an ugly and tragic disease and she has put it out there for the world to read so they know they are not alone. Her views are both lighthearted and realistic, resonating with readers on a couple different emotional levels. We urge the public to RSVP and join us for an unforgettable evening as Dayna touches on the biting humor and raw emotion she has shared in her new book. We are also encouraging our memory care team to read this book, as we feel it will enhance their knowledge in regard to relating to families who have loved ones living with Alzheimer’s.”

Steele is a radio and television personality, entrepreneur, author, consultant for Fortune 500 Companies and keynote speaker. In her newest book, she shares unfiltered observations and sometimes dark humor through chronicled Facebook updates about her mother’s journey with Alzheimer’s. Also included are sections from a neurologist, a long-term care insurance specialist, other caregivers, a documents expert, an elder care attorney, and an assisted living advisor.

“We are pleased to be a resource to the community by offering these educational opportunities to the public, as well as our specialized services for seniors living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia,” said Christina Hale, senior executive director of Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake. “Our memory care is called Salize, which is derived from the word salice, meaning “willow” in Italian. Willow trees, much like memory care residents, adapt and even thrive in the face of difficult stress. Just like the way the willow tree bends under strong winds, but bounces back and continues to flourish, residents living with dementia will prosper—despite the challenges created by memory loss. Salize has been designed to engage residents’ senses and create a calming environment that assists them with daily living tasks. It is our pleasure to host these events and offer guidance and counseling for those who are going through a difficult and emotional journey.”

Avanti kick-started the series of educational Alzheimer’s events on March 24 with a presentation on effective communication strategies for communicating with individuals who are living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The next event will be held on April 28, and will cover the topic of understanding and responding to dementia and related behaviors. The last educational discussion will be held on May 26, and will cover healthy living for your brain and body. All of these events are being held at Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association. All of the events occur from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Avanti Senior Living at Vision Park will host a similar Dayna Steele Q&A and book signing event with book giveaways on May 19 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Basil Event Room & Eatery (College Park Drive suite 200 The Woodlands TX 77384). Please RSVP by emailing hellovisionpark@avanti-SL.com or by calling 281.882.3855. The Dayna Steele event for Vision Park is the same timing as above with the same give away. The event will take place at The Basil Event Room & Eatery, 3117 College Park Drive suite 200 The Woodlands TX 77384.
