Attorneys from the Houston Bar Association will answer questions and provide legal advice over the phone for those in the Houston area affected by the recent floods and severe weather.
From May 2-May 6, the public can call 713-759-1133 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to speak to an attorney knowledgeable in insurance matters, property, landlord/tenant law, contracts, disaster assistance and other consumer issues. On Wednesday, May 4, LegalLine will be extended until 9:00 p.m. for all types of legal questions.
“We recognize that many people in Houston will have a need for legal advice on how to deal with the damage they experienced,” said Laura Gibson, president of the 11,400 member Houston Bar Association. “To meet this need, members of the Houston Bar Association will be available by phone from 8:00-5:00, May 2-May 6. On May 4, we had already planned on extending our LegalLine until 9:00 p.m. in commemoration of Law Day, and callers can ask any type of legal question, not just those related to flooding.”
LegalLine, a public service of the Houston Bar Association, is normally held on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 5:00-9:00 p.m., giving area residents the opportunity to call in and speak to volunteer attorneys for answers to legal questions, brief legal advice and other resources.
The Houston Bar Association is an 11,400-member nonprofit professional organization for attorneys. The HBA provides professional development, education, and service programs for the legal profession and the community.
