VIA CNN: Former President Bill Clinton has been taken to a N.Y. hospital from complications of chest pains.

Clinton’s wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, left the White House after a meeting in the Oval Office and headed to New York, a State Department official said.

Chelsea Clinton, Bill Clinton’s daughter is with him at the hospital. Close friends and family say that Clinton has improved his eating habits, but that has not slowed him down. He is enjoying his life very much traveling, participating in humanitarian efforts and living with vigor. (CNN)

“Today President Bill Clinton was admitted to the Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital after feeling discomfort in his chest,” said Douglas Band, counselor to the former president, in a written statement.

“Following a visit to his cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to place two stents in one of his coronary arteries. President Clinton is in good spirits, and will continue to focus on the work of his Foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts. In 2004, President Clinton underwent a successful quadruple bypass operation to free four blocked arteries.” (CNN)

Updated 4:03pm: Former President Bill Clinton has arrived to Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital. Clinton, 63, recently had two stents placed in one of his coronary arteries, but has also experienced some complications with that heart procedure.

In 2004, the former President underwent heart bypass surgery in which it was a four-hour quadruple bypass operation that found Clinton’s heart disease was extensive, with blockages in some arteries well over 90 percent.

The degree of the chest pain is unknown at this time. More information will come as the story develops.
