When is a tweet worth $7500? When it’s sent before the sanctioned time. No, it’s not the punch line to some corny joke. At least it’s not funny to Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks. The rookie point guard shot off a congratulatory tweet after the Bucks triumphed over the Portland Trailblazers in a game that went into double overtime.

“Back to 500. Yess!!! “500″ means where doing good. Way to Play Hard Guys.”

That one tweet got the player a stiff fine of $7500. It should be noted that Jennings was fined over the timing of the tweet and not the content. The NBA has a strict policy regarding social media. No updates 45 minutes before or after game time. Jennings tweet came 15 minutes after the game was over.

When he found out about the amount he was be taxed, Jennings took to Twitter again saying, “I understand I got fined, but 7500? For being happy over a win, you would of thought I said something bad. I mean it was a big win for us.”

According to Fox News, when asked about the fine later, he chalked it up to being a rookie mistake and said he was considering deleting his Twitter account and might have to tighten up his belt this year as far as holiday shopping.

“It was a lesson learned and I’ll move on from it,” he said. “Don’t Tweet when you’re in the arena. I won’t do that anymore. That’s a lot of money, especially around Christmas time. You do a lot of shopping for the family. It doesn’t look like I’ll be able to do that this year.”
