When President Obama came out in support of LGBTQ lives and in favor of marriage equality in a May 2012 interview, he became the first president to connect his policy to his Christian faith in a way that substantively benefitted the LGBTQ community.

What remains unseen is a legitimate plan of action from the Trump administration that addresses education, economy, national security, and law enforcement's tense relationship with minority communities. It's currently a plan full of fluffed up rhetoric and fear-mongering.

Thursday's decision follows two other major milestones for LGBTQ with regards to the military – in 2011, the "don't ask don't tell" policy was expelled, and in 2015, the Pentagon expanded the Defense Department's equal opportunity program.

Gracing the cover of OUT magazine's OUT 100 issue as "Ally of the Year" comes as no surprise -- Obama is likely to go down in history as one of the most progressive presidents, if not the only one who has fought so tirelessly for LGBTQ rights.
