When the conversation turns to the smoothest voices in R&B, Joe’s name always deserves to be mentioned. Today we’re celebrating the birthday of an artist who has spent more than three decades delivering timeless love songs that continue to soundtrack relationships around the world. Joe never relied on controversy or trends to stay relevant. Instead, […]
There are certain artists whose music never gets old, no matter how many years pass, and Bill Withers is certainly one of them. Today, we celebrate the birthday of a man whose voice, songwriting and honesty created some of the most beloved songs in American music history. Bill Withers didn’t need elaborate production or flashy […]
When we celebrate Missy Elliott, we’re celebrating one of the most creative minds music has ever seen. Happy Birthday to a woman who didn’t just make hit records—she changed the entire sound and look of hip-hop and R&B. From the very beginning of her career, Missy proved she wasn’t interested in following trends. She wanted to create […]
If you’ve lived in Houston for any amount of time, chances are you’ve heard someone say, “Let’s go to Frenchy’s!” For 57 years, Frenchy’s Chicken has been more than just a place to grab a delicious meal—it’s been a Houston tradition. Houston's Reggie C Fitness brings line dance classes, building community through movement, fitness, and celebration.
Every once in a while Kandi Crush turns into a history lesson and a dance party at the exact same time and this battle right here did exactly that. Chic versus Heatwave felt like stepping into a time machine and realizing just how much of today’s music still pulls inspiration from what these groups created […]
Houston is one of those cities that always finds a way to mix movement, culture and community together — and this summer Discovery Green is giving people another reason to get outside. Park After Dark Line Dancing is officially back for the month of June and honestly, this feels like one of those events that […]
If there is one thing Houston is going to do every single time, it’s show up with talent, culture and excellence. And this Juneteenth, one of our very own got the national spotlight they deserve. Texas Southern University’s Ocean of Soul marching band was featured by Vogue, and honestly… it feels overdue. Because if you […]
This battle felt modern, emotional and just a little toxic in the best way possible. H.E.R. versus Summer Walker gave us two artists who represent completely different sides of today’s R&B. H.E.R. is introspective, controlled and musical. Summer Walker feels raw, messy and brutally honest. H.E.R. came through swinging with “Damage,” “Come Through” and “Focus.” […]
This battle right here? This one wasn’t for the casual listeners. This was for people who know what heartbreak sounds like and know the difference between singing and feeling. Jaheim versus Anthony Hamilton might be one of the strongest vocal matchups we’ve had because both artists built careers making music that feels lived in. Jaheim […]
One thing I will always love about Houston is that there is truly something for everybody if you’re willing to go find it. Sometimes we think having a good time means spending a lot of money, booking a big event or making elaborate plans, but some of the best moments happen when you simply bring […]
