TJMS

The gold medals have been handed out and the Olympics are over, but you can still see the champions on TV. Swimmer Ryan Lochte has made his interest in reality TV known and has already booked a guest appearance on “Beverly Hills 90210.” Other athletes are making the talk show circuit this week.

The remake of “Sparkle” heads into theaters on Friday. The new version was a pet project for the late Whitney Houston, who loved the original 1976 movie it was based on. While we can appreciate the performances of new cast members Houston, Carmen Ejogo, Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter, Derek Luke and Mike Epps, the original cast was memorable as well. We wanted to catch up with some of the stars of the first “Sparkle” to see what they’re up to these days. Read on.

At 101 years old, Lee Wesley Gibson of Keatchie, Louisiana is the oldest surviving member of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Gibson served as a pullman porter for 38 years. Back in the day, the job of pullman porter was considered a middle-class position, something Gibson, who was raised by a poor single mom, took pride in.

Mike Epps has a pivotal role in the remake of the movie “Sparkle” due out this Friday. He plays Satin Struthers, a gangster in the original film, who’s been remade into a comedian this time. But this doesn’t mean Epps is any less menacing. His Struthers is a comic who’s become embittered by his lack of respect in his own community. Epps’ role isn’t the comic relief – he’s once again playing a dramatic role as he did in “Jumping the Broom.” Mike called the TJMS to talk about the fact that he KNEW he could always perform in more serious roles as opposed to comedy roles but he needed someone to believe in him. He also talks about working with the late Whitney Houston because the movie is dedicated to her. Check the interview for yourself. Go see 'Sparkle', opening in theatres this Friday.

Some people may know Terry Crews best as the reality TV star of BET’s “The Family Crews” but he’s also a movie actor. A former NFL player, Crews has appeared in 32 movies since 2000. Now he’s heading back to the big screen in “Expendables 2,” the second of what appears to be a movie franchise in the making about a group of mercenaries who are called upon to solve problems that require their specific destructive skills. Crews is part of the action-star heavy cast that also includes such heavyweights as Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham and more. Terry called the Fly Jock and crew this morning and had a great time and he even revealed that they are already filming an 'Expendables 3' and they want actor (and currently locked up in prison) Wesley Snipes in the next movie. Check out the interview and check out the movie which comes out in theatres everywhere August 17th.

First lady Michelle Obama is stepping onto the political stage and launching a nationwide effort to motivate every supporter of President Barack Obama to get more involved in his re-election campaign — and bring along somebody else, too.

It was 2007 when Charisma Cannon lost her marketing job in Atlanta, which had the ripple effect of eventually causing her to lose her house. While she was trying to untangle her financial affairs, she was also struck by a mysterious illness doctors couldn’t seem to diagnose. The least amount of activity exhausted her.

It's been awhile since 1st lady Michelle Obama called the TJMS but it was worth the wait. She has a new global campaign she's pushing called 'It Takes One'. The program encourages supporters to make a difference in this year's election, and to "start by taking one action that will help grow our campaign, urging supporters to fight voter suppression and get out and vote." You really can make a difference andit really does only takes one. However, before she get into that, we find out that Mrs. Obama is a BIG Eric Benet' fan and she loves Ledisi as well. The Fly Jock Tom Joyner asks her 'who is the better singer out of Eric Benet and her hubby President Barack Obama?'. Click on the audio to find out what she said. We're happy that she stopped by to talk to us and the world! Make a difference and get out and vote because like Mrs. Obama said, it only takes one!

Longtime friend of the Fly Jock and crew and popular comedian George Wallace took it upon himself to call in and let the world know that although he appreciates all the gold medals we have won in the 2012 Olympics, these skimpy clothes on these women have got to stop! He wasn't upset though, all he did was joke about. However, that's not the reason why we brought you here. Anyone who listens to the TJMS knows whenever George Wallace appears, a 'mama joke' battle will ensue with he and TJMS co-host J. Anthony Brown. The outcome is always funny and J. is the one who started it this time around. Who will win? J. or George? You make the call. Enjoy!

Tamela Mann has a powerful testimony. She and her husband, David, who starred with her on the Tyler Perry sitcom “Meet the Browns” came from impoverished childhoods in Texas to triumph in the entertainment industry. The couple, who has now been married for 24 years and have four children are now spokespersons for the American Diabetes Association.

Definitely the definition of hate or is it much deeper than that?  While incredibly talented and young (only 16) gymnist Gabby Douglas is out there representing the world in the 2012 London Olympics (and her black heritage) and more importantly, winning a gold medal for the United States Of America, working hard with blood, sweat and tears, it […]

U.S. Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas became the first African-American to win the all-around Olympic gold and the first American athlete to win both the team gold in gymnastics and the all-around gold medal. http://www.blackamericaweb.com/news/little-known-black-history-fact/little-known-black-history-fact-gabby-douglas
